Yes. Software development sits in the occupation code for programmers and software development professionals, which is classed at RQF level 6. That keeps it eligible after the July 2025 changes that removed most lower-skilled jobs from the route.
Salary rules
You must be paid at least £41,700 a year or the going rate for the occupation, whichever is higher. The going rate for software developers is above the general threshold, so for most experienced hires the going rate is the figure that matters. It is published in the going-rates table for Skilled Worker occupations on GOV.UK and is updated periodically.
Lower thresholds apply to new entrants. These include applicants under 26, recent graduates and people switching from a Student or Graduate visa. At the time of writing, a new entrant can be paid 70% of the going rate, subject to a minimum of about £33,400. Confirm the current figures on GOV.UK.
The practical effect is simple. A mid-level offer of £45,000 may not be enough for an experienced overseas hire, while the same offer could work for a new entrant.

- English at B2 level for new applicants since January 2026, proven by an approved test or a degree taught in English
